Rubirosa, aptly nick-named The Romeo of the Caribbean and widely
considered by all who knew him as the most charming and debonair of all the
playboys that ever lived, married five times. That, however,  didn't stop him from
loving a great variety of other women, worldwide. So one must distinguish
between the Wives and the Affairs…

THE WIVES

FLOR DE ORO TRUJILLO
The unlovely daughter of Dominican Republic dictator and U.S. Government
puppet Rafael Leonidas Trujillo (19 -19 ). Rubirosa met her soon after
returning from Paris and getting an appointment in the army. After a few years
in Europe as a diplomatic envoy, Rubirosa's tastes grew more sophisticated.

DANIELLE DARRIEUX
The darling of the French cinema, la Darrieux was at the peak of her fame when
she met and married Rubirosa. They were together during the German
occupation and subsequent liberation of Paris.

DORIS DUKE
The second-richest American heiress, she met Rubirosa while "working" as a
correspondent for Time Magazine in Rome.

BARBARA HUTTON
The first-richest American heiress (Woolworth fortune) was married to Rubi for
63 days.  Upon learning of her impending marriage to the Dominican playboy,
Cary Grant, who had been Barbara's third husband, sent her a telegram which
read: "Do you know what he is?  And do you know what that makes you?"  She
failed to heed his advice.

ODILE RODIN
The 19-year old French actress whom Rubirosa married for love. In the musical
we have changed her name to Valeria.

THE AFFAIRS

They are not all known. A gentleman to the end, Rubirosa never disclosed the
extent or  nature of his relationship to a great number of women linked to him.
Fascinated, the media seized on every opportunity to highlight the foreign
correspondent's multitudinous love life. Here are just a few of his romantic
linkages…

ZSA ZSA GABOR, AVA GARDNER, DOLORES DELRIO

EVITA PERON, SORAYA, JAYNE MANSFIELD, KIM NOVAK

MARILYN MONROE, VERONICA LAKE

ETC.
